1965 BFA Degree, Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. Other art study at the Art Students League in NYC and Hull College of Art in England, philosophy study at the New School in NYC. After living in NYC for 40+ years and developing an art career there I decided to move out 6 years ago and I now currently live & paint in Port Jervis, NY.
My approach to painting is influenced by mythology. The allegorical affect these myths have on civilization pervades our culture. I am interested in their influence on the imagination and how the spirits of these stories speak to the ancient part of our brain. My paintings are references to the allegories and are inspired by the visual possibilities of these tales. I have begun to explore the idea of myths in a conceptual way leading to a more universal expression of the mythic idea.
My painting technique involves a rich complexity in the painting surface. I develop the imagery by layers of active brush work which gives a physical reality to the painting. There is an abstracted perspective and scale relationship of the images which also adds to the symbolism of the mythic concepts.
