Marie Liu

Her technique is a slow, methodical layering of oil paints to ultimately achieve a flawless pattern of shapes and colors.

Inspired by the geographic and historic richness of the Hudson and Delaware regions, in recent years she has focused her energies on landscape painting. She has created a new series of paintings inspired by the numberous creeks and waterfalls in Pike County’s abundant natural places. Having recently moved here, her enthusiasm for this place has compelled her to capture and interpret its special beauty in oil paintings. She has begun to include local people of historic significance into her repertoire of local scenes.

After receiving her formal fine art training at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver, she returned to the Delaware/Hudson region, specifically for the geography of the Northeast and to make her mark as an artist in the place that she found inspiring.

Currently Director of the ARTery Gallery, she was co-owner of the Star Gallery in Middletown NY.  She was Resident Artist for the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area from 2015-16 and during her tenure developed a presentation about the History of Art of the Minisink/Pocono Region, which she has continued to develop and deliver at various historical societies and venues including Grey Towers National Historic Site, Marie Zimmermann house and Dutot Museum.  She also writes about history and art for the Pocono Living magazine.
